VCI Chemistry & How It Works
Our VCI packaging works by creating a microscopic protective layer on the surface of the metal. The VCI chemicals release a non-toxic, odorless vapor that passivates the metal surface, inhibiting electrochemical reactions that lead to corrosion.
The process:
- Vaporization: VCI compounds slowly vaporize from the packaging material.
- Diffusion: The vapor diffuses throughout the enclosed package.
- Adsorption: VCI molecules are adsorbed onto the metal surface, forming a protective layer.
- Protection: The protective layer inhibits corrosion, even in the presence of humidity and contaminants.
When the packaged component is removed, the VCI layer dissipates leaving a clean, corrosion-free surface.
